Can we imagine a world without the discoveries like cars, airplanes, incandescent bulbs, batteries, bicycles, phones, internet, radios, televisions or computers? Can you imagine living in a world without the inventions that we enjoy today? Think of Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, Charles Wheatstone, Louis Braille, Kirkpatrick Macmillan, Joel Houghton, and other great innovators around the world. Can you think for a second what great inventors in the last generation did to change our world? The leading question that gave birth to this book is this: “What are we inventing for the next generation to enjoy?”
“The Spirit of Innovation: Keys to Personal, Organizational and National Transformation”, will disconnect nations from traditions by producing people who are committed to new ways of doing things. Since creation, lambs and donkeys have not found a different way to chew grass. Animals still think, feel and act the same way. But we human beings are not the same way. We have transformed completely. Many years ago, banana leaves were used to serve food and bamboo plates were used as trays. Today, things are not the same. What exactly is that thing that changed everything in our world? Innovation!
How can we define such a significant word, “Innovation”? What is the source of innovation? How can we become innovative? What is the source of innovation in an organization or a nation? How can we see as leaders? Innovative leaders don’t sit down doing nothing and hoping for overnight success. Those who think big, dream big, see far, aim high and act big innovate. People, who innovate, improve systems and position themselves for opportunities. This requires entering the unknown zones and doing things that scare small minds. Benji Bruce said, “You shouldn’t make sense to small minds.” Innovators don’t make sense to small minds because great minds always create sense out of nonsense. Small minds deserve no explanation if you don’t make sense to them.
Do you want to solve a national or global problem? The first step to personal, organizational or national success is to believe that we deserve it. Success happens when the right attitude rise up in troubles. The greatest project in life is the reconstruction of the human mind. Any nation that does not encourage creativity cannot produce high level of inventions. So, the foundation of innovative thinking is creating a positive environment that is capable of neutralizing passivity and timidity. Passivity and timidity are not natural. Citizens of nations are trained to be passive and timid. This is where the right leadership comes in. Right leadership values learning and creative thinking. People who are committed to learning always become more innovative.
Have you met an educated fool before? There is no difference between someone who does not know and someone who knows everything without action. Both ignorance and knowledge without wisdom can qualify someone to be a fool. Having a formal education is absolutely a good thing. However, if you have all the information, without a corresponding application, then you will soon become an educated fool.
Why that most people find it so difficult to think and innovate? The truth: Everyone in the world has the innovation spirit on the inside!
